Even though Vampires were a mainstay of the Lore, Nikolai Wroth didn't fit the standard profile. He was a new breed, a Forbearer, a vampire who doesn't drink from a living being. He didn't have the red eyes and crazed blood lust. He also was unfamiliar with the numerous beings of the Lore, and that's why he did not recognize the imprisoned Myst for the powerful Valkyrie she was. Valkyries, as most of the other beings of the Lore, despised the Vampires and liked nothing better than separating their heads from their bodies. Nikolai wanted information from Myst, Myst wanted her freedom and was not above using her legendary feminine wiles to get it. Nikolai was more old school and fell back on the tried and true torture. That is until he discovers Myst is his Bride, the one being who can bring life back to a Vampire.
I am a connoisseur and looooong time follower of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series, so I was well acquainted with Nikolai and Myst. I knew the bare bones of their story, but had never learned the intimate details. (note the use of the word intimate, because it plays a huge part in this review) I was so excited when I won this audio book from the awesome blog Hot Listens. I had never listened to an audio book before. Whew, I was not aware that I had maintained the ability to blush. Evidently, I had. My face was RED!! It is a totally different experience from reading. I snickered and giggled, almost like I was in middle school again. I don't know why it effected me like that. I'm not sheltered. I've seen, watched, read and listened to things that would make a sailor blush, yet this set of CD's turn me into a tween at a Twilight showing. *scratches head* I don't get it. Hagan Verret who read the male POV, had the accent down pat, but it didn't match the soundtrack in my head. I kept envisioning a really old guy talking dirty, and then I would get tickled and laugh. Simone Fomhar, I am assuming, read the female POV. This is all very much guess work, because I Googled these two and couldn't find a picture or bio anywhere. Hmmm. She was pretty believable and fit much better with the voice in my head. I always new someday people would read about the voice in my head.
After finally getting over the feeling I was watching porn in a school zone, I could finally settle in and appreciate Ms. Cole's very fine story. I love her work whether written or spoken. It was odd, because this story happened before so many of the IAD books, and hearing the characters before they became attached to their significant others made me grin and think, "I know what the future holds for you". It really was different and fun. I recommend giving this a try at least once. It was definitely an experience to remember.

Great review!! It's very hard to match the voices in our head, that's why it's fantastic, when a narrator does. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I felt the same way with this book..lol.. it sounded a lot hotter on audio.., I had forgotten how erotic her books are, well I knew, but, it's a whole different animal on audio.
I can't do audio ...I want to hear a mans voice talking dirty to me...not a woman's ;) I love kresley Cole though ...she's usually an awesome read!
