Doing the right and decent thing has landed Evalle Kincaid in a world of trouble. Blamed for the escape of three Alterants, Evalle is presented with two options, bring in the escaped men or face imprisonment and possible death. The gods and goddess of the Tribunal were feeling generous and gave her three one time magical gifts of unknown content. They also dropped her in the cage of the one man who might be able to help her bring the Alterants in, he is also the man she just handed over for imprisonment. The clock is ticking on Evalle’s chance to prove her loyalty and keep her freedom.

The best selling writing duo of Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love have made a huge splash  in the Urban Fantasy genre with the second book in their Belador series. Long time fans of their earlier works will get a chance to see Sherrilyn and Dianna stretch their creative wings in this unique series. Instead of each book featuring a different couple's story, the Belador series is focused on Evalle Kincaid, a being torn between worlds and loyalties. There are vague romantic threads woven through the books, but these are accent threads only and NOT the main thrust of the books. Evalle is certainly the main charcter, but their are several characters who make a very strong impact in Blood Trinity and then again in Alterant. The villains and their motives are submerged in shades of grey and the good guys are somewhat tarnished to say the least. Motives are shifting from chapter to chapter, and the reader needs to pay attention because the action and plot twists move quickly.

The trademark snark and humorous dialogue are both in abundance, as well as a "too cute to be believed" pet gargoyle named Feenix who snacks on lug nuts and talks with a lisp. These elements soften the very dark tone of the story. I had an EXTREMELY difficult time deciding which way I wanted this story to go. I have a distinct preference for who I'd like to see Evalle with. (Tristan, Tristan, Tristan)
Right now there are several options, including the one I would like to see. Evalle has a rough road in this book and by the end, it's still not clear sailing. The Alterants are not what the other races believe them to be, and the true "big bads" are storing up some heavy reserves with a little inside info. If you think you have this series figured out.....wrong. Don't take anything in this book for granted. Evalle's past certainly makes her a sympathetic protagonist, but it's her fight for her future that makes her a heroine worth cheering for. The Belador series is a true shining star for lovers of Urban Fantasy or anyone just looking for an intense and compelling read.
