Interview/Giveaway with the Multi-talented Marissa Dobson

tn (2)
What do you say to a lady who is responsible for promoting some of your FAVORITE authors when she asks if anyone is interested in doing an interview with her about her new book? Well, first you pick your jaw up off the floor, (because when does she have the time to possibly write a book) and then you say…. Ummm, hell yeah. Marissa Dobson is not only a published author, she is also the force behind  Sizzling PR. I am so appreciative of her taking time out of her uber-busy schedule to share a little info about her new book, Snowy Fate. Please join me in welcoming the incomparable and apparently tireless Marissa Dobson.

So, first off. Can you give us an overview of your book?
First let me say, thank you for having me. You’re right, I don’t even know what the words “spare time” mean. Someone might have to explain that to me. Snowy Fate is a short paranormal romance novella. Fate and a snowstorm throw two people together. The best insight into Snowy Fate is the blurb.

Fate always knows when you’re ready for love.
The past is catching up with Aspyn Layton. The father she never knew passed away and she is left to deal with his estate. An unexpected snowstorm has her stranded at the one place she didn’t want to be –- her father’s house --- with a naked man.
Damon Andrews has a secret, one he shared with Aspyn’s father. He must convince Aspyn there is more to life than what she knows. How will she react when she finds out he is a mountain lion, and she is his mate? Their fates are intertwined.

As a card carrying shifter stalker, I always look for new spins in the books. What made you go with mountain lions?
I’m a huge fan of large cat shifters, and there seems to be so many werewolf stories. I wanted to do something a little different. I have another series coming out with lion shifters (The Live series, the first book, Learning to Live, will be out January 20th), so I needed another animal. Mountain lion just seemed to fit.

They are an extremely regal animal. Very fierce and private.

I’m always intrigued with how the unsuspecting “humans” react to the fact that there are “others” among them. How does Aspyn deal with it?
Aspyn thinks he is a nut, she tries to storm out and lock herself in the bedroom, since she can’t go anywhere with nasty snowstorm outside. But before she can do that, he changes right in front of her.

Can you write anywhere or are you a “set routine” type of author?
I write whenevr I can. No set routine for me. I squeeze in time whenever I can. I do a lot of writing in the afternoon and evening after I have completed my work for Sizzling PR and everything else.

Did anything surprise you about this book?
You might think this is crazy but the paranormal aspects surprised me. I was planning on writing a nice sweet romance, and then well one thing lead to another and you got a mountain lion.

I love that!! I get the biggest kick of how surprised authors are at the twists their works take during the actual writing. When you’re doing character profiles, do you think, this is what I’d like in a heroine or hero or do the characters bring their own set of quirks and foibles?
The characters do all that on their own. They come to me with the quirks and everything else and I have to deal with them.

(I would love to have seen the look on your face when Damon first got furry) *snort*Can you give us a few more hints about your new series about to be released?
Currently I am working on book three of  The Live series, Fighting to Live. It is the story of Chase, Jay’s second-in-command (you will meet Jay in Learning to Live). He finally gets his story and finds true love, but it might be too late. The woman he is meant to be with is dying. Chase makes her want to fight to live, he refuses to allow her to give up. Can Chase save her? Or will he lose her to a battle he can’t win?
Ahhhhh! I cry foul! I want to read this now. tantrum

Excerpt:
She picked up the fire poker as she looked at the naked man before her. “Who are you?” Even though she was startled by the man who stood before her, she had a feeling that he meant her no harm. A man that sexy couldn’t harm anyone; except to break a girl’s heart. He looked as though he should be posing for Playgirl instead of standing in the cozy living room.

“The better question is who are you and what are you doing here?’ he asked as he shook the wet snow off his body. He stood there, not the least bit concerned that he was naked, nor that he was wet from head to toe. Her heart was fluttering, and desire was heating her cheeks. She wanted to explore his toned body with her hands, and her tongue. His dark hair was wind blown into disarray; that served to make him look dangerous, and that much sexier.

“My nane’s Aspyn. Now who are you?"

“You’re his daughter,” he said more out of shock than in question. “I’m Damon Andrews. John, your dad’s lawyer, didn’t think you’d ne coming to the house, or I would have left.”

Once she heard this man was a friend of her father’s, she quickly squashed the attraction that was building inside her. There was no way she could pursue someone who knew her father. She didn’t want to know any more than she already she already did about the man who ran out on her and her mother.
“It wasn’t the plan. I agreed to sell the place and his things. I planned to head straight home, but the storm rolled in, leaving me no time to get out of town. I didn’t have anywhere else to go and I didn’t think anyone was living here. The lawyer mentioned the key under the rug if I wanted to stop.” She lowered the weapon as she spoke.
He nodded in understanding. “If there is anything of his you want, please feel free to take it. There are lots of pictures of you.”

“He never gave me anything while he was alive and I don’t want anything now.” The first tear was threatening to fall.

“Hey there, I didn't mean to upset you. I’m sorry,” he said crossing the room in two strides.

“It’s not you. It’s just being here, around this. It’s more than I can handle now. I’m not a woman who cries at the drop of a hat, I don’t know what is wrong with me. All the years he missed, and now it’s too late. This is like crying over spilled milk.”

He gently laid a hand on her shoulder. “He wouldn’t want you to be upset. He did what he thought was right when you were a child. It might have been the best decision, but he felt it was the only way. It was the only way to give you a semi-normal childhood, and he regretted that decision every day.”

She looked him in the eye and with fire in her eyes, she lashed back. “I know this is going to sound childish and ungrateful, but then he should have come back for us.” She shook off his hand. “But none of that matters now, it’s too late. What are you doing here? Better yet, why are you naked?”

I like the traditional(LOL) wolf shifters. The beast is always just below the surface trying to get out. Who wouldn't want to be their one and only mate? I love Lydia Dare's wolves. The whole Alpha thing just always gets me.

I really like wolf shifters. It would be so neat to be able to change shapes, and wolves are strong, and beautiful animals, not to mention to shifters I've read about are super sexy.

I love shifter books. I haven't found a shifter species that I didn't like. However, werewolves are and probably always will be my favorite. Thanks for the post and interview. I'm off to add this to the wishlist.
