To ruin a man’s life once takes a regrettable mistake.
To do so twice takes a woman like Julianne Baxter.
Eleven months ago, Julianne’s statement to the authorities wrongly implicated Patrick, the new
Earl of Haversham, in his older brother’s death. The chit is as much trouble as her red hair suggests, and just as captivating. Now she has impetuously tracked him to the wilds of Scotland, insisting that he return home to face a murder charge and save his family from ruin.
A clandestine wedding may be the only way to save her reputation—and his neck from the hangman’s noose.
Julianne has no objection to the match. More and more she’s convinced of Patrick’s innocence, though when it comes to igniting her passions, the man is all too guilty.
And if they can only clear his name, a marriage made in haste could bring about the most extraordinary pleasure…
I swear, Patrick was a SAINT in this book. It must have been his guilt that kept him from killing Julianne when she ran him to ground in Scotland. I will admit to the fact that I was not exactly a fan of Julianne from previous encounters, but I do love Jennifer McQuiston's humor and style of writing. One of the reasons I chose to review this book was to see how Jennifer could make Julianne a WORTHY heroine. It was going to be a tough road, Julianne was a vain, social climber isn't really the correct term because she had status, and was much sought after, but it's as close as I can come. In fact, it is her vanity that causes most of the problems. Her poor eyesight and the embarrassment it could cause, is a major factor in Patrick's dilemma. That and Julianne's inability to control her mouth. (I'm sorry, that sounded snarky.)
I did love Patrick, (Big surprise there) he was gruff, but had the heart of a god. Compassionate to those unable to defend themselves, and just wanting to be accepted for who he was, I just wanted to wrap him up and feed him cake. He was still a male, and despite her faults (and she was really young) Julianne was GORGEOUS and a flirt. So of course, Patrick wanted her physically, it just took some MAJOR digging to ignite the true feelings of love.
Despite my early disdain of Julianne, I did grow to appreciate her growth and desire to right her wrongs. And as always, I enjoy Jennifer McQuiston's talent as an author. Her ability to weave romance, humor, and just a bit of mystery is a surefire ticket to an enjoyable read. This was a quick, one sitting read (as is the norm for this author). Once you get started, be prepared to finish. There are no breaks and things happen very quickly. All in all, I think Jennifer did a remarkable job of growing Julianne's character and making her a fit match for Patrick. Well done and I hope to see much more from Jennifer McQuiston on the future. Brava.

Thanks so much for having me on!
I just finished reading Julianne and Patrick's story this morning - before coffee :) Historical romances are my favorite, but I loved seeing the author's profession reflected in the hero's chosen profession. I'll be looking forward to your next story!
Thank you for hosting today!
Your review has definitely made me want to read the book! Excellent job =D
I've not tried her yet but wanted to the second I saw this book. He sounds just...excellent. Her...well I'm glad she won you over for the most part. She sounds like one I'd be nervous about from meeting her in other books!
