He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro
When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.
She's No Kitten
Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.
Landon was so mesmerized by watching Ivy work on the safe, he almost didn’t hear the car drive up to the gate. Calballero was back.
“We’ve got company,” he said into the headset. “Time to go.”
Ivy didn’t answer. Instead, she leaned closer to the safe.
“Ivy, let’s go.”
No answer. What the hell? Frowning, he grabbed his flashlight and pointed it at her, giving it a quick flick on, then off. No response. Like she hadn’t even seen it. Was there some special code word he was supposed to say, like here, kitty, kitty?
Down on the ground, Calballero entered the house, along with several men.
“Ivy, come on.”
She ignored him.
Landon slewed his scope away from her to scan the rest of the house. Calballero and the men looked like they were heading for the stairs.
“Get the hell out of there. Now!”
Still no answer. What the hell was wrong with her? Couldn’t she hear the men coming? Another few minutes and they’d be in the room with her.
Swearing under his breath, Landon slung the barrel of his sniper rifle over the cable. Holding on to both ends of the weapon, he slid down to the balcony directly across from the tower. The friction of the wire against the barrel completely screwed up the rifle, but he didn’t give a damn. Dropping it to the floor, he whipped the M4 off his back and raced into the house.
He charged into the hallway just as Calballero and the two men with him topped the stairs. They had a clear view of the office—and Ivy—from the landing, and didn’t even see him. They immediately pulled their guns and aimed at her.
Well talk about the luck of the draw, it is very rarely that I will pick a "new 2 me" author when there is a female "front and center" on the cover. I like my bare chested, sleezy man covers, thank you very much.(did you notice the pecs and abs on the blond in the background, though!) But something about this chick spoke to me, so I said, "yeah, let's give it a go." Yay!! Ivy rocked the house and she was no tame kitten. She had been burned by her last two partners in a BIG way, so she was not about to take crap from another macho Special Forces testosterone factory. She doesn't have to and she has the claws and fangs to back it up. You go, girl! I loved Ivy, she doesn't hesitate to do her thang and speak her mind. No shy, retiring submissive here. Nuh-uh.
Now to my favorite aspect of any book ever, the hero. Well except in this instance, he is Ivy's male counterpart. I love, love, love that!! Landon is such a great, great guy. He is all Special Forces alpha, but he makes "laid back" look like a tweeker. He is so accepting, nonjudgmental, and totally able to see Ivy as the unique being and superior operative she is. And he really, really wanted to pet the kitty.
This book was so much fun. It was fresh, fast and keep me glued to the pages until the very last credit rolled. There are some nasty bad guys that need handling and some even nastier insiders. Bureaucrats, a pox on them all!! There is also some very nice heat and some absolutely stunning secondary characters that I can't wait to meet again in a more in depth way. *snort* I am officially a fan of Paige Tyler's kick ass new series and I fervently hope for more outstanding examples of what a female lead should be. Job expertly done, Paige, brava!
