Theo’s sole purpose for the last ninety-eight years was to protect his wolf. That changed the moment he met Drew and the wolf called ‘Mate’.

Carrying the soul of an extinct wolf alongside your own isn’t easy. Swapping into said wolf is even harder. Ask Theo Grey—he’s been doing it for ninety-eight years. Yet, after surviving two world wars, witnessing the space race and patiently enduring the eighties, you’d think he’d have
seen it all, but nothing could have prepared him for meeting Tofino’s new vet, Drew O’Bannion and according to the wolf, his mate.

Drew loves her dog, sleeping in and coffee. She also loves being a vet. The main reason behind her accepting the veterinarian practice offered to her from a family friend. Hoping for a slower pace at life Tofino seemed the ideal spot. What she didn’t expect was Officer Theo Grey. Theo is tall, dark and drop dead gorgeous, a definite 10 on the ‘wow’ scale. Regardless of his looks, there is more to Theo, there is her unexpected attraction for him. It’s unnerving and completely out of character for her, but she is able to match Theo’s hungry kiss, for hungry kiss.

With their desire growing at an alarming rate and the threat of an unknown shooter roaming the woods of the coastal town, Theo must face the ultimate decision—let Drew go for her own safety or claim his mate for all time.

Reader Advisory: This story contains scenes of violence and threats of non-consensual sex.

Closing the door to his office, Tom asked, “What is going on with you two?”

Theo relaxed on the worn couch Tom had added to his office. “Who two?”

“You and the wolf? You and Drew?” Tom poured coffee into a couple of cups and passed one to Theo. “Why do I get the feeling there is some weird love triangle thing going on here?”

Theo took a sip of his coffee, then joked, “How can it be a triangle when the wolf and I are on the same side?”

“But you have different souls,” Tom was quick to point out. “What’s going on?”
Theo gripped the mug. “The wolf called mate.”

“What?” Tom stilled. His jaw dropped slightly.

“The. Wolf. Called. Mate.”

Tom slumped down on the edge of his desk. “I heard that part. That was me, in shock. Which, for the record, never happens.”

“Yeah, well, you weren’t the only one shocked.”

They sat in silence until Tom opened his mouth, but Theo answered the question before Tom even asked. “Yeah.” He nodded. “Drew. Happened the first time we met.”

“And…?”

“And when we swap, he always goes to her house.”

“And…?”

And I don’t do a damn thing to stop him, Theo thought to himself. “That’s it.”

“Bullshit,” Tom huffed. “Keep going.”

“And we protected her when a pack of gray wolves wanted her as their midnight snack.”

And…

He knew he couldn’t afford to let anything happen with her. And… He wanted her more than anything.

And…

This was so far out of character for him that it was unnerving.

It took me a bit to get into the swing of this book. I had to adjust my thinking because Theo and the wolf are two separate entities that share the same body. Theo was a dominate male to begin with, add in a majorly alpha wolf and you can get a tad overbearing. He does settle down to a tolerable level, but it was close, and Drew doesn't take his "you da bitch" line either. She has a dominant streak as well, so the fur flies. *snort*

Then I started to really appreciate and get into this unique and utterly compelling tale of mates, wolves and mean ol' nasty villains. By the time I realized it I was almost two-thirds of the way through the book and I started to get that "Oh no, the end is coming up!" tightening in my gut. You know the feeling. You've found something really good and you're terrified of the end and the thought that what comes after probably won't be as good. Extinct will definitely give you that feeling.

It will also give you a few other feelings. You know! Those feelings that cause you to squirm in your seat. This is a very, very steamy read! Well it does contain literal animal magnetism, so what can you expect? It also features a set of handcuffs used for something other than official use. No, it's not a bdsm book, just a little playing around. Although there is this one scene where Theo decided to be all legal and butt munchy. It made my eye twitch, but he was in the right...... dammit! There are also moments when the tears will well. I mean one occurrence just KILLED me. Ugh! No hints, but have the tissues at the ready.

Once you get into the correct mind set and start to connect with the characters, the story goes IMHO, way, way too quickly. Nancy Adams needs to come up with some more wolves. I'm not done yet. Job very well done, brava.

My name is Nancy Adams. I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running though my veins. I enjoy watching hockey but despise skating...and the cold. I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as much as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words.Besides writing, I have three small - but legal - addictions: bed linens, lavender and books. All of which are replenished on a regular basis. Reading into the wee hours of the morning is one of my many bad habits, next to spontaneously rearranging furniture and randomly painting rooms in my house.

Excellent review! I love the premise of this book; two cognizat entities sharing one body and it's a wolf to boot is just an awesome concept. I love all the excerpts and definitely have this on my summer TBR. Thanks for sharing.

I am so reading this book. I love shifter stories and really splitting the two personalities is is not something you see authors do to often.

A hot guy and animals. Whats not to love

This is definitely a new concept because it sounds as if they are 2 completely different entities. Plus you have to love an alpha male.
