Carling is one of the oldest of her kind, and has done a great deal of living in her thousands of years spent as a powerful Vampyre. She has reached the upper most echelons of power among the Elder Races, and as one of their most respected Councilors, the world lay at her feet. Her days are coming to an end though, Carling is suffering from a degenerative disease that attacks the minds of the most ancient of her kind, eventually resulting in their true death. Wyr sentinel, Rune Ainissesthai, is a true immortal. Created in the in-between, Rune is one of the four ancient Gryphons to live on Earth.  In return for saving his friend and fellow sentinel’s life, Rune owes a debt to Carling, that must be repaid at once. Rune has no idea what the favor consists of or how long it could take, which is not sitting well with his Alpha personality. He may appear to be a laid back surfer dude, but he is still one of Earth's supreme bad-asses.

I have been soooo looking forward to Rune's book, he was one of my favorite character's from this series and it's certainly NO secret that I have a thing for blondes. That's why I was so surprised that by the time I was about a third of the way through the book, I was kind of mystified. I was like, "Hmmm, something is missing here.". That secret snark factor that hooked me in the first two books was almost nonexistent here. There was a sprinkling, and a little sexual by play, but nothing like the first two books. But I am woman, I am strong, and I will persevere. Man, oh man! I am so fricking glad I did. Sheesh, did this story explode!! It went from "meh' to "holy shite" in two pages. It never let up from that point on. The action, the snarky dialogue, the smoking hot sex all showed up with a vengenence.  Please forgive your humbled devotee for doubting your greatness, Ms. Harrison. I beseech your mercy. This book more than met your lofty standards and has firmly entrenched you among the greats.

Carling went from old school diva to hipster hottie in a flash. Who knew that Rune was a make over artiste extraordinaire? This was the Rune I knew and loved, the smack, the sexy, the all around yumminess. The new updated Carling was fun and saucy. Way more than enough to keep our boy in line. Bad guys beware.... sheeeee's back!  We get to see a lot more of our duty bound Djinn prince and learn his story, which if I'm not mistaken, brings us to the next book, Oracle's Moon. It promises to be just as good great. There was lots of twist, turn and betrayals afoot in the world of the Elder Races. Make sure you don't miss any of it and get left behind.
