Well peeps, it seems it’s time for me to turn over my blog to another talented author. This time were focusing on romantic suspense with Anne Marie Becker. If you treat her nicely enough she might just offer up a book to win. Please give her a warm welcome.

Romantic Suspense the Ultimate Satisfying Read

Why do I read romantic suspense?

Heart pounding. Skin tingling. Toes curling. And that’s just from the romance. Add the thrills and chills of a dangerous situation, mysterious circumstances and a worthy villain and that’s a recipe for excitement that keeps me coming back for more.

In the third grade, I worked my way through the school library’s entire ghost story section and then discovered mysteries. There was an entire carousel of Nancy Drew books and I made it my mission to work my way through them. I was drawn to the macabre and anything that smacked of danger. Perhaps my ordinary eight-year-old life was just too vanilla. While I count myself lucky to have such a “normal” childhood, part of me wanted to escape. Discovering the Nancy Drew series, Agatha Christie books, Edgar Allen Poe, and then Stephen King went a long way toward satisfying that need.

But then I stumbled on a whole new type of book: romance. Living vicariously through the heroine as she was swept off her feet was a whole new thrill.
What could be better? A balance of the two. Romantic suspense… Heroines who are just as strong as the heroes. Villains who create chaos, but are thwarted. Romantic suspense is the ultimate satisfying read, giving me happy endings times two --- impending doom averted and a love that survives all.

With two Bachelor’s degrees (Biology and Psychology) and a Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Anne Marie has held many jobs in her life --- tutor, waitress, personal and family counselor, and high school counselor, to name a few. Early on, she discovered a passion for understanding people (and her characters!), inside and out. (It must be why she enjoys writing such complex villains and vibrant main characters.) As the mother of three young, active children, finding time to write is always a challenge. But Anne Marie believes it’s worth it to preserve her sanity.Writing is a way to “spice up” her daily life and, at times, it is a much needed escape. Of course, sometimes it’s the characters driving her insane, but she promises she has the madness under control.

Not only do I adore Romantic Suspense, but I adore this author and her book. Well, she did scare me to death, but I adore that she can tell a very thrilling story!

Donnell, I just love been scared out of my skin from a really good book. Then when you get to the steamy parts it's really intense. It is indeed a rare treat to find an author who can combine them into a truly good read.

Hi, Donnell! I adore you too, but I'm thrilled I scared you. ;)

Thanks for stopping by, and for YOUR contributions to the romantic suspense genre.

Blue Shedevil - thanks for having me here today. I do love to scare people, and enjoy a good scare, so I'm happy to support Kiss of Death and my genre. :)

Great post! I think I was on the other side of that Nancy Drew carousel grabbing the books, too! So glad to meet people like you in KOD! Your book looks fantastic.

Anne Marie Becker said...

LOL - Thanks, Larissa. Nancy Drew was a popular carousel. The challenge was finding them in order! :D Thanks for stopping by.

@Audra - yes, the suspense keeps us on our toes, doesn't it? Keeps me coming back for more.

I've always liked my suspense with a dash of romance -- keeps things interesting. Loved Only Fear, Anne Marie! Can't wait for Avenging Angel to get here.

Great blog. I like suspense that seems too much like real life. Is that man next door the killer, or a really nice, concerned man?

Sebella Blue said...

Thank you, Mary! It's always great to get feedback. Aren't things that could actually happen just a little bit scarier? It is possible to have a serial criminal in your circle of acquaintances and never suspect a thing. Now that's scary.

Sounds great! Thanks for sharing. Romantic suspense is great, nothing adds a little excitement to a developing relationship like a dangerous situation. And its great to see how they come though it and grow together.

I love romantic suspense because I love to be kept guessing and who doesn't love a little romance in their lives? Thanks for the giveaway.

Back when I was nine, I started reading mysteries because my mother did. I later found romance on my own. Romatic suspense combines the two genres I like most.

This is a no-brainer answer. I write romantic suspense under two names. What could be better than a yummy hero and a strong female in dangerous situations? Beats me. I think the genre needs all the help it can get, so good for you, Anne Marie, for calling attention to it.

Anne Marie Becker said...

@Trina - thanks so much!
@Mary - I often see people at the store or in the neighborhood and wonder what deep, dark secrets they're harboring. Especially after studying psychology and counseling for many years... everyone has pain, and everyone has a dark side. Some are just darker than others.
@donnas - danger can be SUCH an aphrodisiac. LOL

@madnzanymomma - You're welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

@Anne - I started watching soap operas because my mother did... must be where I found a love for high drama. LOL But I found romance at a garage sale (that sounds weird!) when I bought some paperback books on sale. And I never looked back.

@Polly - thanks! Glad you could stop by, and happy writing!
